Beyond the Hype: How to Make AI Work for Your GIS

Session Type: Presentation

Speaker(s): Kevin Christy (Dewberry)

Date & Time: Thursday, 3:45 PM – 4:15 PM

Location: Auditorium, 3rd Floor

Abstract

AI is everywhere in the geospatial space right now, but many teams are still unsure how to use it in a way that provides real value. This session focuses on practical ways to bring AI into existing GIS workflows without overcomplicating things.

We will look at common use cases such as automating repetitive tasks, improving data quality checks, assisting with documentation, and speeding up development work. The session will also cover what tends to go wrong—such as unrealistic expectations or poor data readiness—and how to avoid those pitfalls.

Rather than focusing on theory, this presentation provides a straightforward approach to identifying where AI fits and how to use it effectively. Attendees will leave with a clear path for putting AI to work in their own GIS programs.
