Abstract
In 2024, through the USGS 3DEP program, the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC) at the University of Wyoming, in partnership with Woolpert, successfully created a statewide 1-m digital terrain model (DTM) and 2-ft contour dataset for Wyoming. These high-value, high-resolution datasets enable the generation of a wide range of derived geospatial products. The success of this project, combined with strong demand for these data, highlighted the need for a new and improved platform to more easily discover and disseminate these resources.
In response, WyGISC has developed version 2 of the Wyoming Lidar Portal (https://lidar.wygisc.org/). Key improvements include: (1) a single, integrated map interface for discovering lidar point-cloud data, tiled 2-ft contours, tiled 1-m DTMs, and DTM-derived products such as landforms and slope; (2) enhanced navigation, visualization, and selection tools for efficient data discovery and download; and (3) submission forms for contributing new lidar or derived products.
In addition to providing access to these datasets, Woolpert and the State of Wyoming have embarked on a transformative, multi-year initiative to produce statewide Elevation-Derived Hydrography (EDH) under the USGS 3DHP program. Two Hydraulic Unit Code (HUC) basins were identified for a state-wide pilot (Snake Headwaters and Dry Fork Cheyenne basins) totaling around 2,200 square miles. Woolpert will discuss the two HUC8 basins, provide a clearer understanding of the EDH production process, and define the value these data bring to local and state agencies, particularly in Wyoming.
