Smarter Field Workflows: Integrating AI into Data Collection

Session Type: Presentation

Speaker(s): Kevin Christy (Dewberry)

Date & Time: Thursday, 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM

Location: Auditorium, 3rd Floor

Abstract

Field data collection is often constrained by time, environment, and the need to balance accuracy with efficiency. This session explores how artificial intelligence can be integrated into field workflows to reduce manual effort and improve data quality without disrupting existing processes.

Using practical examples, we will examine how AI can assist with tasks such as voice-to-structured data capture, photo interpretation, automated attribute population, and real-time validation. The session will also address how these capabilities can be incorporated into tools like ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123, supporting both online and offline workflows.

Rather than focusing on emerging or experimental technology, this presentation emphasizes realistic, deployable approaches that align with how field crews actually operate. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies for enhancing field workflows using AI in a way that improves efficiency, reduces errors, and increases adoption.
